Arta 01 (MS)
The
school is situated in the town of Arta, with a branch in Agios Dimitrios, a small suburb
situated about 5km outside of Arta itself.
The school is well equipped with computers, a well-stocked library to
cover all levels, and most importantly air-conditioning, a necessity in the
summer months.
Generally,
the students have been courteous and willing to learn about the English language
and culture. They have been well
behaved and I have not encountered any major discipline problem in the school.
I have taught students between the ages of 12 and adult students with
class sizes ranging from 2 to 15 students.
Arta
is the second largest town in the region of
Epirus.
It is situated 76km south of Ioannina, and 50km North-East of Preveza.
It is surrounded by citrus groves as you leave the town.
Arta is a large town of approximately 20,000 people.
It has most modern amenities such as a vivid nightlife, many restaurants
as well as English Language newsagents, which is unusual in most towns.
There are also native English teachers living in the nearby towns of
Filippiada, Louros and Preveza, thus ensuring that you won’t feel too starved
of company. It is well connected to
other towns and cities due to a comprehensive coach network covering
Greece.
The
most famous feature of Arta is the 18th century
Bridge
of
Arta
, which crosses the Arahtos
River .
This bridge is probably Arta’s most photographed monument.
Legend has is that the master builder had difficulty in preventing the
bridge from being washed away every time he attempted to complete it.
He was then advised to entomb his wife in the bridge and so therefore she
was buried alive in the bridge.
I
have enjoyed my time in Arta, and would be happy to recommend the school to
other prospective teachers. If any
further information is wanted regarding the school, my contact details can be
obtained upon request through Anglo-Hellenic.
